Let’s talk about our experiences of putting on group exhibitions. What have we learnt from doing them? Do we have practical knowledge specific to film/installation/performance? Do we have any negotiation tips? What does our practice demand and what are we able to let go of?

Give what you can, take what you need.

This session will be dedicated to presenting our practice to the group. Peers will be given 15 minutes to present a slide show and talk us through their practice and the group will then give feedback to the presenter. We have scheduled these events to coincide with peers coming to the end of their BA who have to complete a “Viva Voce” (elitist speak for oral presentation) under exam conditions. It’s still something that we should practice regularly as artists in preparation for interviews or networking opportunities with other creative people, even if this doesn’t apply to us.

This time, we are going to trial a new way of working these Crit sessions. We will see work from 3 peers during the session. Each peer will have 30 minutes to hear the reactions to the work and then engage in dialogue about the themes surrounding what they have shown. How do we engage in collaborative practice? What can be gained from letting go of some creative control and sharing it with other artists we admire? How might we approach someone to do this? How do we find people who we might be compatible with?

How do we engage in good research practice? Why is it important? How does our practice influence what we research and in turn how does that research guide our practice to new horizons?

Peers currently studying BA Fine Art will be in the midst of compiling their research project module. This session is an opportunity for them to talk about the research they have got up to this point, and for peers who have been through that process to support them. We know that your research will not be finished - we don’t expect it to be. It is an opportunity to bounce ideas around and encourage you to take your research in an exciting direction that complements your creative practice.

You can apply for funding. Yes, YOU! 🙃 In this session we will discuss funding applications. Which funding pots have been awarded in the past? How did you tackle the application process? Did you get any assistance in applying for funding? Or ask our friendly peers your own questions that relate to the projects you want to fund.

Our first Group Crit. Peers are invited to show something they have been working on and receive considered feedback. We hope to create an environment in which peers feel comfortable enough to experiment with showing parts of their practice that they may not usually present. This is a chance to take a step back and understand the many ways your working practice interconnects.

An introduction to the Creative Peer Support group. We will introduce ourselves to one another, discuss why Creative Peers has been started and consider what peers hope to take away from the meetings.
